When it comes to a serious study of the world of hypnosis, the terms persuasion and influence come far closer to the reality of what is actually going on than anything else. Just like with anything else, there is a lot of conjecture and eye-rolling from those who may have only seen hypnosis in some sort of a stage show, and not everyone really buys the whole repression thing.

Which is all just fine. We're not so sure about people who take it too seriously either; considering it some sort of wonder sure for everything that is wrong with everybody. Water is about the only thing that applies to a status that everything can't do without. But there is so much about how the mind works that we may never fully understand that it is a very good thing that someone is looking into how to effect people to change their mind about things.

In our view, this is the real essence of hypnosis. In hypnosis you tap in to an area of the mind that operates on a level you are not aware of. Why does one person catch a whiff of chocolate and feel absolutely impelled to find the source where another just enjoys the nice smell and moves on with their day? Why is one person you meet in a crowd so much more attractive than everyone else? It's questions like these about the subconscious mind that hypnosis at least attempts to effect even when it doesn't completely understand why the thought existed in the first place.

I turns out that people operate most of the time on instinct. They aren't thinking on the conscious level that they don't like you very much; they merely treat you accordingly. By understanding how to use your voice - changing pitch, pace, inflection and word choice - you can normally have at least some impact on how you make almost anyone else feel about you. You might only go so far as to turn an initial dislike of you into "hey he's not so bad after all;" but if you need to be in a business relationship with that person this can have a major impact on how that relationship proceeds.

Yes, there are goobers out there who think that they can learn hypnosis and the art of persuasion and influence to entice women to fall madly in love with them almost instantly. Unfortunately, humans are just far too complex to ever simplify the monster pile of pheromones, hormones, past experiences, and all the other chafe blowing around in people's heads. But what hypnosis can give you is a far better chance to not be shut out instantly as well. It may not make you Casanova, but it can certainly make you the life of the party - which isn't a bad second place.
